Bury Court Barn Weddings | A Hidden Gem in the Surrey Countryside

One of the standout features of Bury Court Barn is how tucked away it feels. It’s completely private—just you and your guests—surrounded by peaceful countryside. There’s no distraction from the outside world, which makes such a difference to the atmosphere. It allows everyone to fully relax, be present, and enjoy the day.

From a photography and film perspective, that sense of calm and exclusivity really comes through in the final images.

A Barn That Reveals Its Magic Throughout the Day

Bury Court Barn is beautifully understated at first glance—but that’s part of its charm. As the day unfolds, the building seems to reveal itself bit by bit.

The high ceilings, rustic textures, and soft natural light create a space that feels both elegant and relaxed. It’s one of those venues that doesn’t overpower your wedding styling—it enhances it.

Thoughtfully Designed Spaces for Every Part of the Day: Getting Ready

The bridal prep space is tucked away and purpose-built, with gorgeous natural light pouring in—ideal for hair, makeup, and those calm (or excited!) morning moments. There’s plenty of room for your bridal party and suppliers, so everything feels easy and not rushed.

One of my favourite features is the separate little space for getting into your dress. It has a beautiful spot to hang your gown and a full-length mirror—perfect for those final touches. You can even do a reveal to your bridesmaids or a parent, which always makes for such emotional, genuine photos.

Meanwhile, the groom has nearby onsite rooms, which makes it easy for me to move between both parties and capture the full story of the morning.

Ceremony Options

Whether you choose to marry indoors or outdoors, both options are stunning.

Inside the barn, the ceremony space is incredibly versatile. You can style the top of the aisle with fresh or dried flowers, candles, framed pieces, or statement decor to reflect your vision. It truly transforms depending on your theme.

And then there’s the clever use of curtains—hiding the wedding breakfast area during the ceremony. Guests have no idea what’s waiting behind them…

The Big Reveal & Confetti Moments

After the ceremony, the confetti moment naturally leads everyone outside into the gardens. And if the British weather has other plans, you can even do confetti down the aisle indoors—equally fun and full of energy!

Later, when the curtains are pulled back, there’s a real wow moment as guests see just how spacious the barn is. It’s always such a great reaction—and something I love capturing.

Beautiful Gardens & Endless Photo Opportunities

The two garden spaces on either side of the barn are perfect for mingling, drinks, and photos. Throughout the year, the colours change with the seasons, giving every wedding its own unique look.

From a creative perspective, there’s so much variety:

  • Rustic barn doors
  • Elegant steps for group shots
  • Long grass and rolling countryside
  • Soft garden backdrops

It means your final gallery never feels repetitive—there’s always something new to work with.

Quiet Moments for Just the Two of You

One of the things couples always appreciate is having little pockets of space to step away from guests for a breather.

There are some beautiful hidden spots around Bury Court where you can soak it all in—“we just got married!”—while I capture some relaxed, natural portraits. These are often the moments couples treasure the most.

A Perfect Setting for Your Wedding Breakfast & Speeches

Once revealed, the barn transforms again for the wedding breakfast.

The dual-aspect light is fantastic—especially for the top table—with large windows creating a soft, flattering glow. The rustic brickwork provides a gorgeous backdrop for all the details, whether your styling is minimal or full-on luxe.

And when it comes to speeches, the layout and acoustics work brilliantly. Everyone can see and hear clearly, which keeps the energy connected across the whole room.

Golden Hour Goals

Golden hour at Bury Court is something special.

The light falls beautifully at the front of the building, and it’s only a short walk away—so you don’t have to disappear from your guests for long. In the summer months, the gardens glow with warm, soft light that’s just perfect for romantic portraits.

It’s always worth sneaking out for.

Seamless Evenings & A Packed Dance Floor

Because of the spacious layout, bands can set up quickly while guests enjoy the transition into the evening.

The dance floor itself is more intimate, which is actually ideal—it keeps the energy high and the party full. At the same time, there’s still space for guests to relax at tables, chat at the bar, or enjoy extras like a photo booth.

And just outside, the festoon lights create the perfect setting for night-time portraits—those final, magical shots to end your wedding story.

Late Night Magic

With outdoor power available, I can also set up lighting for sparkler exits or even a champagne spray moment with your wedding party. These are always such fun, high-energy shots to finish the night.

A Venue That Adapts to You

What I love most about Bury Court Barn is that no two weddings ever feel the same.

The space gives you the flexibility to make it completely your own, while the experienced staff ensure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. From a photographer and filmmaker’s point of view, it’s a dream—so many textures, backdrops, and moments to work with.

A Personal Note (and a Funny Story!)

I’ve actually had a slightly different experience at Bury Court myself…

Back in 2021, just after lockdown lifted (and right after I turned 40!), I was asked by a bridal shop to model in a shoot at the barn. The shoot happened the day before my 15th wedding anniversary—and I couldn’t say no!

I even convinced my husband to join at the end for some couple photos. It was such a fun experience getting to “play bride” for the day—and seeing the venue from that perspective gave me a whole new appreciation for how special it is.

Final Thoughts

Bury Court Barn strikes that perfect balance—relaxed, beautiful, and incredibly well thought out.

For couples, it offers a private and memorable experience. For photographers and filmmakers, it’s packed with opportunity to create a varied, storytelling-rich gallery.

And for guests? It’s simply a joy to be part of.

If you’re considering it for your wedding, you’re in for something really special.
