Virtual Newborn Shoots

Virtual Newborn shoots – Capturing memories to make your heart happy in lockdown.

I’m buzzing to tell you more about Virtual Newborn Shoots. I can hear you asking – How can I get newborn photos in lockdown? If you are due your baby very soon, then this could be a way for you to get some gorgeous images of your new arrival. Having a virtual newborn shoot gives you a chance to slow time down and truly celebrate the newest person in your family. Babies do stay little for a while but, the newborn stage goes by so quickly. Virtual newborn shoots mean we can get some great photographs and not even leave our homes!

LOCKDOWN LIFE HAS BEEN TOUGH

Lockdown has meant we have all missed out on celebrating & sharing memories with the people we love & care about. I had four newborn shoots booked in for January 2021 and felt so awful that I had to cancel them. So I looked into how I could shoot virtually. The technology is developing super fast, and although it comes with limitations, I think you will be surprised by what we can achieve!

There is now a full page of info on virtual newborn shoots on my website, and I will be adding to the galleries as I do more.

HOW DOES A VIRTUAL NEWBORN SHOOT WORK?

I have had so many people contact me thinking I have some kind of magic powers to make this work! So let me explain how it works a little more…

I have been using an app called CLOS. At the moment, this app is only iPhone friendly and needs the latest iPhone software. So if you want to book a virtual shoot, you may need to borrow an iPhone if you don’t own one.

CLOS have a great article on how it works here:

If you book a shoot, you will need, to download the app. Using the app, I can set up a ‘room’ and send you a link. Once we are in a room I can see you and you can see me, a bit like a face-time call. Like this:

THE IMAGE QUALITY IS BETTER THAN YOUR PHONE, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS A PROFESSIONAL CAMERA.

I can then use your iPhone to take images and press the shutter. I am able to shoot in RAW, which means the images are bigger than your typical phone photo, and I can then edit them with more control. If you would like photos of all three of you, it is ideal if you have someone in your bubble attend the shoot to hold the phone. Alternatively, you can balance it somewhere to get you all in shot!

Before we do a Virtual Newborn Shoot, I will send you a PDF Guide to help you get ready. It has lots of reference pictures but might be worth checking out my newborn portfolio page to see more of my work.

Once we have the CLOS app set up, a shoot date booked in, I will send you a checklist on the day, and then we will just wait till your baby is super sleepy. Newborn shoots, virtual or otherwise tend to work best when babies are in a deep sleep as we can move them without disturbing them. I expect that we will likely complete two CLOS ‘room calls’ to take pictures. This will give you time to feed, re-settle & change baby nappy, or outfit. Each call is likely to last 30-60 minutes, depending on how sleepy baby is. We may get all done in one call, but there is no pressure.

Ideally, baby is 6-10 days old as this is when they are still curled up and happy to sleep. We can always try and get some images if your baby is a little older but may be trickier.

THIS IS NOT EASY – BUT THE RESULTS ARE WORTH IT!

This is not easy – but we can make it happen! We will work as a team. Helping you prepare for the shoot beforehand. Directing you on what is most flattering for images, how to use blankets, and the natural light and helping the person holding the phone with clear instructions to get the shot lined up.

I aim to get a good mix of images for you to choose from. After I have downloaded and edited your photographs I will send you a viewing gallery. You can then choose the images you would like to purchase.

I have a lot of experience photographing newborns. Photography has been my job for over 14 years. You can learn more about me here!

The world has been in lockdown for so long, and one phrase has stayed with me the whole way through:

love is not cancelled…

REVIEWS FROM FAMILIES WHO HAVE HAD A VIRTUAL NEWBORN SHOOT.

“After learning very quickly that we would be having our baby 3 weeks earlier than planned and during a national lockdown, we were gutted our newborn photoshoot would no longer be possible. Hannah suggested trying out a remote shoot through an iPhone app as an alternative, so we could still capture those precious early days with our new arrival, and I’m so glad we did! We had no idea what to expect but the results were absolutely amazing, and can’t quite believe it was all done virtually, directed and captured by Hannah. We couldn’t recommend Hannah’s service enough, and are beyond grateful for the gorgeous memories we have to cherish forever. Thank you so much!” Chelsea & Aaron & Baby Bodhi

“We are so grateful Hannah did our virtual newborn shoot! She was amazing, patient and ever so talented; the photos speak for themselves! You wouldn’t have guessed she was 330 miles away! Wherever you live, if you want precious photo memories with your newborn get in contact quick!!” Ross & Sophie & Baby Elisa

“What can I say?! Made me emotional! I can’t even begin to thank you enough. Thank you so so much honestly you’ve made us so happy! You’re definitely always going to be part of our lives and taking photos for us as long as you do!” Claudio & Jordan & Baby Otis

Much Love
